Well, at least Garner’s girlfriend was black, because God forbid.

And you said that Garner’s girlfriend never comes back? What kind of unfair bull is that?!

Of course, Garner’s one episode love interest character is also black. This is Baywatch. Were you expecting social progression or something?

Didn’t they establish that Mitch is a former SEAL?…stop laughing. Okay, okay, keep laughing, but if you can accept that ridiculous premise, him knowing his way around explosives makes a kind of sense.

Oh good, Stephanie’s back. What a heartstopping plot, her being gone… I truly was worried that she’d be gone forever.
For real though, your Stephanie jokes are hilarious, something about that voice you use here and for those old Charmed reviews, really sells the jokes, haha.

Didn’t this show usually push environmental messages? Why portray an environmentalist as a retarded terrorist who wants to save the oceans by causing an environmental disaster with an oil rig explosion? What’s wrong with using your normal political terrorist for plots like these?

Also maybe Garner’s love interest was black just because people prefer members of their own race romantically and not because of some bullshit reason like them being afraid of pissing off rednecks.

Yeah, not like the number of interracial marriages and romances has significantly increased since the Civil Rights movement made them legal nationwide and lead to a softening of bigoted attitudes towards them. Yeah, let’s just go with the theory that white people are attracted to white people and black people to black people. That’s much easier than actually looking for a more complicated explanation that might hurt our heads.

Before things gets too heated here:

        1) I’m gonna assume Lermont meant *sometimes* people prefer dating their own race, which is true and might’ve been Garner’s reasoning. Although he is a fictional character and therefore the reasoning lies with the show.

        2) What I was making fun of is that whenever Baywatch features a plot including black people, it is a Garner plot.

        3) This becomes a more evident trend when Baywatch adds a black lifeguard to the main cast in season 7, and she has next to no lines and mostly interacts with black extras. Her sole main plot involves discovering she has a white mother.

        4) TV producers back then, and even to this day, absolutely prefer same race couples. It’s the “safe” option. For example, an episode of Quantum Leap involved the main character, a white man, in a relationship with a white woman. But because he projected the “aura” of a black man, the studio objected to an interracial relationship. This is just one example of many.

        5) That being said, I don’t think Baywatch was being malicious or trying to make a statement. Nor am I really, I just think predictable TV patterns are funny.

        6) Oh and the environmental terrorist was trying to give people a “wake up call” with the oil rig explosion. Basically, hurting the environment to create change for the long run. I probably wasn’t clear about it in the video, although the plan was indeed stupid.
