Oh yes, I remember seeing this in the theater when it came out.
After getting past the Super Mario Bros. movie level of not understanding the audience or source material…it is a genuinely bad movie and Chun Li should absolutely have been the hero instead of Guile, and she did not need to be a reporter. Ever since Lois Lane and then reinforced with April O’neil – reporter seems to be the default job for damsels in distress associated with action super heroes.
I had no idea Van Damme was a cokehead burnout…but that explains a lot. He really is the worst part of the movie and his acting sucks on toast.
