Aladdin and his mother Dim Sum look like racist caricatures of Asian people in this.

Also, if anyone other than whoever summons him and other genies can’t see the genie in the lamp, then does that make genies stands in the Bevanfield Aladdin universe?

First movie I ever riffed on!

I am still amazed that the Sultan was capable of creating an empire spanning from China to Morocco, perhaps the largest empire ever, depending on how many countries conquered in north and south (unless they refer to a different Sultan in the first scene, though I doubt it). The sorcerer is dressed in Qing dynasty clothing, so I take it he is from the farthest east of the empire, returning home? This movie is a cultural mess.

At least they got one thing right with where Aladdin originated. Would that research explain how much less effort was put into it than Beauty and the Beast. I also wish I knew what is and where to find that hilarious music at 12:20; I laugh so hard every time I hear it.

Wow…. How is it even possible that this movie looks this shit? That happy beard guy looks better than most of the main characters.

Also, did I see Edward Woodward’s name in the credits as the voice of the Sultan? As in original Wicker Man and Equalizer star Edward Woodward? What the frickin’ hell?

There is no way that sign reads “public bathhouse”.

The first half means “forbidden city”, but I have only basic skills, so I can’t read the second half.

But there is no “public”, “bath” or “house” in it for sure.

    Can anyone help?

Oh, god we had this on VHS as kids…

Yeah, apparently the wizard’s name is Erasmus. Because when I think of…Moroccan? sorcerers the first thing that springs to mind is Renaissance Dutch theologians.

Now because of that song, I need to groove on some good fake 80s recycled synth rock. “Night Begins to Shine” it is.

Wow, this was a sit. I’m sorry you had to watch this, but this was such a soul sucking nightmare, even you’re riffing isn’t entertaining. I’m not sure why some worthless material like a creepy pasta or a Goodtimes cartoon is riff-able and something like this isn’t (atleast imo opinion, I could be alone in this), so I don’t blame you for trying to make this funny. I salute you for sitting through this and trying to bring light to the darkness, but I think this one was too far gone.

Props for bringing back “I got a shotgun!” though. Classic

Wow, I legitimately don’t know which one was worse – Bevanfield’s Beauty and the Beast or this. Be careful with those Phelous, I wouldn’t be surprised if they can cause tumors.

You know what, I’m going to take away the only selling point that this thing has. If you’re interested to see an Aladdin story set in China, watch the Arabian Nights miniseries. It’s only one of five stories, but told a million times better than this. The setting is used to its advantage there, aside from a couple references to the Disney’s version they are telling their version of the story and actually managed to pull off having two genies, without making them redundant — both have distinguished characters and proper place in the story and eventually they fight each other (spoiler for a 18 year old miniseries, I guess).

Anyway, great review, take a deserved rest and have a good time!)

All the sly gesturing between those two at the beginning made it seem like they were trying to seduce eachother. ::gag::

Looks like someone went… to the William Shatner School…. of Acting.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but….At least the character designs, audio, & art quality in Dingo Pictures is consistent.  There appears to be 3 completely different sets of character designs that just don’t jive together. Still looks better than the barely animated segments of the Carmen Sandiego gameshow though.

Didn’t the last Bevanfield movie you reviewed also have a guy with freakishly large hands?

Lol, these costumes are so bad; Mixed dynasty period fashions, peasants dressed like upper class nobles, & half the population in Arabesque costumes, because asia & the middle east are totally the same place. & for the hell of it, Jafart’s castle has a vaguely Egyptian design.

Well, we had to have ONE non-black genie, otherwise it could have seemed racist. lol.

How do the skeletons make puckering faces when they have no lips?

Aladdin & Lilly have the same relationship dynamic as Tamino & Pamina from The Magic Flute; arguably te lamest romance in the history of opera.

In a weird way, this is somehow the closest to the children’s book version of Aladdin I grew up with.

You weren’t kidding when you said that this movie was going to be a borefest. Even just some of the clips feel dragged out. You must have really built up an endurance for these kind of movies. Otherwise, I don’t know how you can manage to get through these things. I never thought I’d miss the quality of Dingo Pictures. Though, in terms of what’s the worst, I think Wolf Tracer still holds that title. At least Bevanfield doesn’t look like it was the front for some scam that probably involved Scientology.

Speaking of Wolf Tracer, this looks like another production company that hired out some big names and squandered all their potential. We’ve got some very well known actors here, but they’re given nothing to work with. I’d say this was the worst thing Kate O’Mara has been in, but I’ve seen Time and the Rani.

Rare is the day a movie is so bad, and so boring, even Phelous can’t make it entertaining enough with editing and commentary. That’s truly an accomplishment on the part of Bevanfield, I couldn’t make it more than a third of the way through it. Sorry Phelous, somehow you pulled a miracle and made things like Dingo Pictures worth watching because of your reviews, but making this “movie” funny was beyond even a herculean task.

It is not normally something I can say to something one of you Funny Reviewer Gentleman and Ladies have reviewed, but not only could I do better, I actually have – the annual pantomime I do has put on better productions of Aladdin than this (British paragon actors being utterly wasted notwithstanding, of course).

And the reason I say that is, it might just be me, having done panto for a quarter of a century, and just about off to panto practise… But, structurally, this movie seemed to have more in common with panto than not. Lots of talking, and not a lot of action or set-pieces. (You know, what you expect out of an amateur production with, like two or three sets!) Except that, in actual panto, everyone OVER-acts and the dialogue is supposed to be funny.

Here, Having literally done Aladdin a time or two, I could see a certain parity in the sort of things they were doing or saying, but… Just missing the jokes. I feel as if that if this had been used as a script for an actual pantomime, it would have been… A bit pants, but it might have seemed better (especially since the cast, with an audience, would likely have hammed it up.) The widow flirting with the bad guy, Aladdin being a very straight-faced character etc. Similar, but just done… Poorly.

And, it being panto-like might explain the voice-cast somewhat, since professional pantos put on by actual theatres (as opposed to the long-running, but still basically amatuer crowd at my local church that I do it with!) do have a named celebrity or two in the cast now and again. (It being a British tradition.) So, if told this was basically a bit like a cartoon panto, it might have maybe inclined folk to say yes more than just a flat pay-check job (though I’m sure that was a large part of it).

Actually, I would ENTIRELY unsurprised if the script for this animated… “feature” did actually start out as someone’s panto-script. Or possibily made-up the night after the writer saw a panto and tried to re-write it from memory without all of the jokes.
