Don’t mean to sound like a suck up but the only good thing to come out of this series is your reviews of the “Films.” Good job, looking forward to Part 2.

I cannot believe they are rebooting the franchise again so soon but maybe, just mayv=be we shall get The Arklay Mansion Incident this next time. Don’t laugh.

Oi! Don’t laugh. It could happen.

      Thanks!

Yeah, I’ll hope this next time around the Resident Evil block will be a lot better. They’ll have to try pretty hard to be as bad anyway.

I’ll be honest. I actually didn’t mind the first movie too much. It was goofy and over the top with a lot of things but in the end it’s not worse than a lot of other movies out there.

I will admit however that I never played the games so maybe that’s part of the problem.

I’ve played three of the games. Can’t say I like puzzle-solving in my horror survival games. Dead Space is the best horror game franchise, imo.

The RE movies seemed to set out from the beginning that they were only loosely connected to the video games to tell the “we’ve got a new character and she’s my hot wife” story, but I still liked the first two movies.  Then… I saw the third, and realized plot and continuity meant squat in the franchise. Then the fourth… I gave up, and haven’t seen the others.

All these contradictions make it sound like there was a page missing from the script. Perhaps it was the most important part.

Congratulations, your comment is more in spirit even remotely with Resident Evil than any ONE of the Resident Evil movies.

YES!! Haha, it does make me happy to see you review this movie finally in a proper format like this.

Man this movie was an utter pile of crap, which is why I avoided it in theatres and only watched the first twenty minutes on a cheap second hand DVD before dumping it in a charity shop. I genuinely have absolutely no earthly conception of how these movies could POSSIBLY be written and directed by the same guy, they make absolutely no sense when put next to each other and the characters are radically inconsistent with themselves even within the same movie, let alone in different ones. How many times does this make it that the apocalypse has actually happened and the world’s all Mad Max?? This is just such complete idiocy and incompetence.
I’m glad to see you rightfully eviscerate it like this, the thing deserved to bomb at the box office, and I just wish it and all the other crap-fests had hemorrhaged money instead of minting it, ugh…

Why do you horror fans put up with this shit from your genre?  It just doesn’t seem fair to have to deal with continuity bullshit and godawful camera work from a horror series.

Who are the writers for these movies? Does the studio just pick random people off the street?

As a matter of fact, yes. I was chosen, but insisted on a “Jill sandwich” AND “I hope this is not Chris’ blood” line, and was promptly fired for knowing too much about the games, despite having only played two and one spinoff.

So throughout all of this, all half a dozen movies, nobody ever said, “hang on, this contradicts stuff we already established.”

That moment right before you said that the Red Queen is played by Mila and Paul’s daughter, I was JUST wondering at that point why the she looked very like Mila lol.

Like other people have said, the best thing to EVER come out of these movies are your reviews Phelous. 🙂

I’d like to think that if they had a son, they’d put a wig on him and had him play the part anyway.

Now that you mentioned it, I went back and looked for a still frame…and once you know you can’t unsee the family resemblance.

Not that there is anything wrong with looking like her mom Mila, of course. Let’s just hope she doesn’t grow up to marry a hack director that will ruin her career after showing so much promise in a landmark cult classic like The Fifth Element early on…

I think comparing the Resident Evil films to the Bay-formers is fair.

Both film series have been over-reliant on explosions and CG effects, both had an almost tolerable first film, both have continuity issues and character arc reset buttons, but Paul W.S. Anderson at least had some semblance of decent cinematography and interesting fight choreography – until this film.

It just seems like the Paul and Mila gave up and stopped caring. Add in the Jaden Smith style nepotism of including their own daughter, and you have a shameless cash-in that puts a rotten cherry on top of a crap sundae of a film franchise.

With the proliferation of horror and especially zombie related movies and TV shows that don’t suck, let’s hope any “reboot” is kept far away from the W.S. Anderson family and given to competent people that actually care about the franchise.

Wtf this movie. Why cant script writier do there proper job and do research and go back and look what they already did in the previous movie. Guess it down to not caring. Why cant movie just be correct. I hope the reboot will fix this but i wont give high hope unless after the movie out and i see they did there proper job and money.

“this fight scene might make it hard to look at”

Never a truer statement for someone who’s just dropped off her only pair of glasses for new lenses.

Lenses are too damn expensive. T^T

Hi Phelous! Been away for a while but I’m glad to see that you and Lupa are still cranking out great reviews. On the subject of Resident Evil do you know anyone who has run a Resident Evil role playing game? I’m thinking of trying to design a campaign so if you or any of the wonderful folks in these comment sections have any advice I would really appreciate it. Thank you for years of laughs!

You really have to wonder how a series that’s been continuously written and directed by the same person has so many continuity problems. Does Paul W.S. Anderson have short term memory loss? How can he not remember what he wrote before? It’s not like they brought in new writers who aren’t familiar with the series.

Then again, I suppose the question is, does Paul W.S. Anderson even care? Probably not. He’s more concerned with showing off how hot and badass his wife is. So what if this movie contradicts everything from the previous one? That movie came out many years ago, like a whole 5! Who’s going to remember what happened in a movie that came out 5 years ago?

Although, it’s a bit sad that this means another era of Phelous reviews draws to a close. I always enjoyed you ripping into these movies. The only one I saw out of all of them is the first and I’m guessing it’s best it stays that way.
