Of course you won’t love or hate a movie like this.
It’s supposed to be dumb and campy and based on a lame franchise, so expectations are low. At the same time, it’s a big budget summer raunchy sex comedy with the Rock so it has to be a little fun.
It’s a cash-in from a studio that holds a license to a show mostly remembered for Pam Anderson’s bouncy boobs in slo-mo and “the Hoff” being the greatest TV lifeguard of all time.
I didn’t like neighbors and I don’t really care for Zack Effron. I haven’t seen him in a movie I like so far.
Only having seen Allison’s commentary, it seems to me that a movie like this needs to be as cluelessly earnest as the show was if it’s going to recapture the spirit of the show. The character have to do things that lifeguards would never do without realizing that lifeguards would never do them. If they’re aware of how ridiculous the situations they’re in are, then the whole point is lost.
Got a question for you, Alison. It’s a little personal and kind of from left field…but I wasn’t sure how to message you, so I guess the comments section will have to suffice.
I have wavy hair and have always wanted to cut it short like yours, but the weight of having medium-length hair is the only thing that seems to keep it under control. It actually looks a lot like yours did earlier in the year. But now I’m wondering if I can cut it shorter for the summer and style it like yours.
So, my question is: what product do you use for your hair?
Sorry if that’s a weird thing to ask in a forum. But I really would like to try shorter hair this summer, and I think I can pull it off with a little product. Any tips?
I have to admit, I haven’t experimented much with hairspray. But I guess that only raises the odds that it will work for me, since I haven’t futzed around with it yet. In fact, the only memory I can conjure up related to hairspray was an ill-fated tolo dance in the late 90s. My date chewed up a few blotters of acid before I picked him up and things drifted sideways pretty fast. But I remember being impressed that my hair stayed in place through the night.
Do you stick with a particular brand or just grab whatever’s on special?
My hairspray is a can I’ve had forever, I honestly don’t use very much. It’s just something specifically for blonde hair. I don’t have any specific recommendations since I haven’t used a wide variety of products.
Okay. Well, I’ll just grab whatever I can find and try it out.
Thanks for indulging my string of idle questions.
And I love your movie selections. If I were in a blockbuster store and you were working there, I’d definitely be pulling videos from your staff pics shelf. Come to think of it, I know Evil Dead 2 is one of your favorites, and I actually “discovered” that movie from a staff pics shelf. I miss those shelves.
Thanks for creating & maintaining your various web series, Allison. We all love the work you put in to them.

Except apparently there wasn’t any sex.
I don’t like R-rated comedy-type humor so this movie is a skip for me.

Heya! Usually I tousle it up after a shower and either spray it with hairspray, or use Catwalk Curl Amplifier. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the recommendation!

Will you also be doing Baywatching episodes on the direct to video movies?
