I find it weird that it’s an end of an era for both you and me today.

I’ve never listened to this podcast before (And I certainly wouldn’t without starting from the beginning), so I can only hope it was a blast!

As someone who has never watched the show, I can I will miss this podcast. Sometimes I feel the same way about Doctor Who – that exasperated sense of obligation to watch it just because I’ve been watching it for so long already, but there’s still enough great episodes, even if I don’t like the direction a season can take or where they take a particular character, that I’m not at the point of actually hatewatching the show. The end of the latest season had me nearly done, but the christmas special somehow redeemed it for me. And even if Moffat drives it off a cliff with the next one, he’s leaving afterward, so…

Again, that sense of exasperated obligation.

Hope you guys keep up the podcasts! This one has been great, and your Ash vs Evil Dead got me to watch (and love) the show!

I feel the same way about Doctor Who. After all the extended melodrama that’s been going on with Clara, I was so utterly fed up when I saw her steal the finale away from the Doctor being on Gallifrey.

This was especially frustrating after the, “She’s leaving in this episode”, and “Haha, fooled you” that had been going on since the previous season.

I was already frustrated with how “Face The Raven” went, since it was melodramatic to the extreme, but she faced death with dignity, everyone was well-written, and everyone was in character (Apart from Clara, but honestly, she’s always never been super-well-defined).

But then came “Hell Bent”. Ugh. Started out well, but the most frustrating part is the resolution of a plot we’ve been waiting to see finished since 2008 in what, less than 20 minutes? And then the episode turns into ANOTHER farewell for Clara… And it’s not even a farewell for Clara! She’s still mucking about, flying around in a stolen TARDIS when she’s running the risk of destroying the universe by doing so. Grand. Also, despite what Moffat has said, I’m pretty damn sure they did that for the exact purpose of bringing her back… Why else would they have ended the episode with her taking off like that? It kinda ruins the moral of “letting go” that the episode was previously going for up until that point, what with the flaunting death at the risk of damaging reality.

I get the feeling sometimes that it’s not The Doctor who doesn’t like endings, it’s Steven Moffat.

Also, sorry for having ranted about my frustrations with Doctor Who…

This isn’t exactly the place it belongs…

Agree completely with you on the disconnect between Face the Raven and Hell Bent. What makes it so tragic is that possibly one of the best Doctor Who episodes ever made is sandwiched between the – Heaven Sent build up my expectations so much, and it all came crashing down. S.8 did so much to FIX Clara’s shortcomings as a character, and it all unravelled in one episode.

Fortunately, the christmas special utterly surprised me by being, one, an odd-numbered christmas episode, and two, being about River Song, and being GOOD. In fact, it’s probably done more to redeem River’s character for me than any of her other episodes. So, feelings on last season are decidedly mixed.

Sorry, Phelan and Allison, just…don’t get a chance to talk about this stuff much. I vaguely remember Allison saying she watched the show, and I know Phelan is a fan, so I’d love to know what you guys think of the show and how it’s changed since you guys started watching!

    Hey Phelan and Allison,

Longtime listener, first time poster. Just wanted to say that I would have given up on this flaming garbage heap called Supernatural long ago if it weren’t for your podcast. Your continued jabs at the poor writing and terrible plot holes has really lightened the mood over the past few years and I’m kind of bummed to hear that this is finally coming to an end. I’m not begging you to keep doing this or nothing, (No one should have to endure this lame ass show for this long. You two should be nominated for sainthood for coming as far as you have.) I’m just posting the thank you for fighting the good fight for so long.

So Thank You! Thank you from the bottom of my #&%$ing heart! I mean it. It’s been a long hard road, but your commentary has made it totally worth it. Keep on being Awesome!

I’ve never listened to (or heard of) this podcast before, but I saw that it said “Last Ever!”, and I figured you must have had the same sentiments that I did.  I’ve been watching out of loyalty for years, but after the last episode of the season, I just decided I was done.  I’m not watching it anymore.  I’m 13 minutes in to the podcast and I agree completely with what I’ve heard so far.  An hour and a half, though,  I guess I’ll finish it later.

Oh, and I just heard you say, as I was listening, something about how turning the amulet off was a plot hole.  I actually do remember that in the episode way back in season 5, when Sam and Dean die, the angel Joshua says that God told him he would stop the amulet from working.

There is a logical reason as to why the last few episodes were a tangled mess.  Show runner Carver abandoned the show after episode 19 so he could move on to another show.  So Dabb and Singer were left with this mess. I am guess that Carver wanted to keep this story going while Dabb wanted it to end. So I assume that episode 22 was supposed to be the finale, but Dabb wrote a happier ending so The Darkness arc could swiftly come to an end.  I highly doubt it, but perhaps a different show runner would mean different writing. I won’t fully give up on this show, and give it one last chance. I will miss your guy’s podcast though, there aren’t many articles, critics, or Vloggers who will, or have stuck around to review it and I am surprised you guys lasted this long!!! Having God as a character kind of ruined the character Chuck, it was nice to see him pop in on occasion and have that mystery element, but to bring him in as a full blown character was pretty pointless. Episode 20 was THE BEST one out of the last 5 and it was disappointing to see that character be followed up with what 21 and 22 were! I love what one person said about him… They had called the God character a “Incompetent Boob”

Frankly, I’m surprised it took you guys THIS long to be done with the show forever X’D

This series hasn’t been good for years, and it’s now just spinning its wheels, content to pander to legions of desperate fangirls, and a few fanboys, coasting along on their inexplicable support (and bad fanfics).

These vlogs have been fun though 😀

I suppose nothing lasts forever… well, except Supernatural.

Really though, I greatly enjoyed these Podcast reviews, Phelan & Allison. Your fun humor made listening to you pick apart Supernatural very enjoyable. I look forward to your future podcasts, which I hope for your sakes involve better shows!

2-5 are great 1 and 6 have some good stuff, pretty much everything after that sucked. At least it had an ending in the 5th season finale. Besides a 10 second scene at the very end the show was completely wrapped up. I get why people still watch because it used to be really good show now it’s just sad.

So… is there any real point in watching Supernatural at all then if it turned this shitty and inconsistent?
I kinda tried a few times over the years but even from the start it never appealed to me.

Is there a point where the series actually got GOOD? Or was it always crap and some of the crappiness was just more entertainingly crap than the rest?
