A NEW PHELOUS AND THE MOVIES!!! sorry I do love the movie nights episodes with you phelan but I was starting to think you had ended your old series since it had been 3 months since the last new review. i’m looking forward to you guys tearing this movie a new one. *edit* If nobody was laughing there head off in the studio during recording or the person in charge of the recording equipment, then I don’t know. I would have been the one laughing my head off or badly trying to hold back my laugh and be like “Are we sure we should be using this voice for the cat?” The Princess singing is so awkward moment. I think they where lazy and did not want to come up with lyrics and just go lalalal. The animation background look really nice. The house falling over edit was hilarious.

a great review, you guys wok so well with Brad, but… did you get all the CA jokes out of your system yet? I’m not defending them, but this has gotten kinda old and can come off as bitter for some people… idk, maybe I’m alone on this.

Anyway, in the original story, the father leaves only the cat to his son, explaining it can talk and to follow its advice. the CAT is the one who actually asks for boots originally. So yeah. This is NOT the true story of Puss ‘N Boots at all! (because that was the only thing wrong here, obviously). The princess sneaking to dance at a bar reminded me a lot of the movie Antz. I’m not sure if they were really taking the idea from there though, as I think I’m the only person who actually remembers Antz. She even kinda looks a little like Princess Bala. Or maybe it’s just the thorax. I dunno.
The Live action Shatner stuff made me uncomfortable ;____; I don’t like seeing actors used like this. But then I heard his dub work.. and that made me even more uncomfortable. This movie is a giant mashup of discomfort!
Benzaie, I want your Garrus hoodie. A lot. and I was WONDERING where the heck you went! But making actual movies is a pretty good excuse so I’ll give you that one.
Ever heard of The Twelve Dancing Princesses? It’s a Grimm tale about a bunch of rich teenagers who snuck out at night to have underground dance parties with strange boys. Any suitor who can’t find where they go at night gets executed. Sounds like a great plot for Hostel 3.
I’m pretty sure Phelous already reviewed Hostel 3….also a Hostel movie with a plot? HA! Like that would ever happen.
I saw another review of this movie, and you guys are far funnier. Grant it that this movie is confusing as hell and its pacing is everywhere. Although I think the best one out of you guys was Ash, he did a great job with those boot and even more so than William Catner.
From what I have seen so far, this movie is just so cringe worthy due to the ‘art’ style, voice acting and what they call music. The use of the Kazoo and Xylophone was nothing but pain on the ears, and now I cant stop thinking of Shatner voicing Winnie the Pooh when he is either drunk or on meds.
LOL this was terrible! Indeed the animation is quite good, but the designs… blech! And notice the horrifying hybrid of an arara parrot and a tucan at the desk of the narrator? It’s best left to the imagination as to how that hybrid was born…
my guess is the bird is a result of Global Warming. That’s it, I’m getting an environmentally safe Puss ‘n Boots film.

I like they just asked Shatner random bullshit.
I can’t really defend the songs here, but I can at least explain them. They’re both from operas, the movie just gave them a more modern beat for some reason. The first one I don’t know the name of, but I know it’s a go-to audition piece for sopranos because it’s a good piece for showing off your range. This is the reason for all the la-ing as well, the opera version is just the singer hitting notes. The second song is the Habanera from Carmen. It’s a fairly well-known opera tune that’s written in French. This may be why the American version chose not to translate it, but I certainly can’t rule out laziness.
I attend the opera regularly. This movie just HAD to pick two of my favorite arias to ruin.
Yeah, I knew that song was French but it comes off lazy rather than being true to the original version of the song when it’s just sung randomly in the middle of an English dub.
and i was thinking they did a “re dub” or the song, and changed all the lyrings to “la la la” instead of the french original.
but i was wrong.
The first la-la song is part of the second of the big arias for the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, beginning with words meaning “the vengeance of Hell boils in my heart.” The bit they use is from the high many-notes bit on the words “meine Tochter nimmermehr” (my daughter nevermore — unless her daughter kills Sarastro, that is). I’m going to think of this as ludicrously funny so I won’t be enraged.
I just realized today that Obscurus Lupa channel on blip is now Movie Nights. Right when I noticed a bunch of uploaded movies, they were uploaded to this site on the same day :D. Everything you guys do is gold. I want more “choose your own adventure” video series, but I know you have an important obligation to your patreon base. That being said, I was really glad to see and hear about Benzai and his concurrent life. I never watched his stuff, but I’m really glad he’s making movies for French people that watch TV, kind of like Lindsay writing for American TV. I also appreciated the cameos a lot, not just for seeing people, but for the extravaganza for this episode that you pulled off. I almost watched the WC5 review with Mike J before I remembered that this episode had “a” cameo. Too bad Mike J wasn’t in this one.
Please never stop doing “Phelous and the Movies,” Phelan. I think your best ones are the animated ones– or at least the ones that allow you to do a lot of voice overs and play with effects. ;P

I hadn’t, I checked out a clip though and, yeah, I definitely hear the similarity haha.
I chalk it up to finding the movie, rewating it over & over, writing a script, schedule cameos, get everyone to memorize their lines & read them without cracking up, lots & lots of editing & special effects, editing in cameos from previous reviews for Metalolz, etc. Unless you’re Spoony or Little Kuriboh, who spend almost every waking hour of the day on Twitter.

I remember this movie. My sister saw it on Netflix, clicked on it just because she thought it looked hilariously bad, and then called me to come watch it with her because of how much of a trainwreck it was. It was the part where she said “The queen is trailer trash and I think the king is dead everytime he’s on the screen,” that roped me in.
Seriously though Phelan, you really half assed it. You didn’t get to even one quarter of an ass.
I hope this isn’t some kind of last hurrah or anything. Seeing this camaraderie and good humor would get me all welled up if I could stop giggling for the entire video.

Great entry into the Phelous video universe. The Shatner-ized ‘interpretation’ of the fabled feline seems to remind me of the creepy, old, pedophile neighbor in Family Guy, mixed-in with the talking owl that followed you around in Kings Quest V.
And, yes, those words are usually incomprehensible on that long string of high notes, but they’re repeated understandably shortly afterwards in the aria. More than you wanted to know.
I…actually feel kind of bad for Shatner. I detest the guy for being such a drama queen his entire life, but he just looks so miserable during the “exclusive interview.” Like, someone get him a strong drink or something.
Biggest question of this movie is Why does Shatner do that voice? If it was to try to sound younger it just comes off as…well lets just say “Too Smart for Strangers” comes to mind.
Shatner’s interpretation of how the cat sounds sounds like Winnie the Pooh if he were a chain smoker.
