So Canada has caffeine guidelines? Do you also have sugar instead of corn syrup in your drinks, like Britain? You can totally taste the difference between British Coke & American Coke.

Speaking of Britain, I don’t know if this is still the case, but 10 years ago their Mountain Dew was really disgusting. I remember it was like Mountain Dew if you took away the sweet, somehow. I had to throw away the can; it was undrinkable.

I heard that in Canada, Mike’s Hard Lemonade is made with vodka, like British Mike’s. Is it true? Everything here in the states is made with malt, and it’s not the same.

I remember Cherry 7-Up…I don’t think I’ve had it since high school, though. It’s probably “new” because 7-Up puts antioxidants in their pop now. Healthy, y’know. 😛

I really enjoyed the epicness of this vlog: explosions, flying cherries, and all. :awesome:

Like Canada, Britain and many European countries have a strict ban on the amount of caffiene and sugar that can be in a soda, so you’re probably right that they removed all the good stuff. It’s all about terminology, really. With the recent popularity of “energy drinks” Britain and many European countries now allow Mountain Dew to be under it’s original (or close to it) formula as long as it is classified as an energy drink, hence the “new” release of Mountain Dew Energy. This is why…

GOD DAMN IT, I’M DOING IT AGAIN!

I’m sorry, Jon, I’m so sorry. 🙂 So is their Mountain Dew Energy our Mountain Dew (or Mtn Dew I guess, stupid spelling is kewl lol), or our Amp?

I actually scaled back on my original comment when I found I was going on way too long. I didn’t realize I was so passionate about drinks/drinking. 😉

Mountain dew energy I think had more caffeine that regular mountain dew. Also if they can just classify it as an energy drink to have caffeine in them they might as well just do that. Making the whole caffeine law silly anyway.

Energy does indeed have a high caffeine rate, 150ml of a 500ml bottle is pure caffeine while the rest is basically caffeinated sugar and fizzy water with flavourings added in, which is probably why it’s dirt cheap come to think of it.

The downside of british mtn dew is that it is made by Britvic, a company that specialises in fruity… watery… type drinks, and they only seem to distribute Mtn Dew Energy commercially; Code Red for instance can only be found in American import stores where I live.

Yeah there some stupid thing with caffeine only in dark soda or something odd like that. There’s no restriction on sugar but I honestly don’t know what we get in pop most of the time. Here’s what a can of pepsi reads here instead of High fructose corn syrup: Glucose-Fructose AND/OR Sugar.

Yes Mike’s hard is a vodka mixed drink, same with Smirnoff Ice and it’s much better than malt in my opinion.

Strange…maybe they’re keeping their options open on what they throw in there from batch to batch? I’ve noticed Mexican Coke being sold in grocery stores here, made with sugar. They’re even in little glass bottles, which is kinda neat.

I guess Pepsi Max is outlawed there – being one of the “zero”-type pops with no carbs, it tastes like a mix of regular and diet, but with a ton of caffeine.

I hate malt. Smirnoff Ice is made with malt here, which is such a waste. I first had Mike’s in Scotland, made with vodka, and it took a while to figure out what was wrong with it when I had it here.

I had some thoughtful comment about White Out and the original Mountain Dew with real sugar, but I’ve completely forgotten it because of the random insanity of this vlog. Well played, Phelan, well played.

I will say that was a nice smarmy cameo by Brad, my second favorite reviewer – after you, of course. 😉

Haha yeah we tried to be very serious about our pop drinking.
Yeah I love the way Brad did his bits for the cameo. Drinking pop videos NEED cameos!

Ha! Yeah, this kind of video needs cameos, as well as fire effects and flying cherries. They make it that much more awesome. 😉

I can’t keep track of who calls it pop or soda or what! I always called it soda (I’m from Massachusetts) but people here in Ohio call it pop. Really old-school people in New England call it tonic! So I guess folks from your corner of Canada call it pop, huh?

Personally I usually call it pop and I think it’s the more common name around here but I know people here that call it soda.

Good to know. 🙂 Once I had some guy out here ask me if there was a “pop machine” in a particular building and I just stared like a moron because I wasn’t sure what he was talking about. It wasn’t quite as bad as the time I asked where the bubbler was (which is apparently called a drinking fountain). Now all my classmates really think I’m a dork – but I don’t care because I like being a dork! 😛

It’s a dialect thing. I know in Illinois I was always referring to it as “pop”, but once I joined the Marines and moved to California, every out there referred to it as “soda” to the point I’d be berated for saying “pop”.

Now anything but “soda” sounds weird to me.

Yeah, different dialects and accents are interesting to me. They do lead to a bit of confusion until you catch on, though!

Yeah, in IL we call it pop, but when I went to college I ran into people who called it soda, sody (sigh), and somewhere out East there are people who call everything coke, no matter what it actually is.

I never heard of bubblers before college either. 🙂 They’re water fountains or drinking fountains here.

Not sure if anyone will care, but Mountain Dew is doing another taste and vote, this time for two potential diet flavors:

Voltage, which is raspberry citrus (light blue), and Supernova, strawberry melon (purple-y pink). You can vote at *sigh* fandewmonium.com

I went with Supernova, since Voltage tastes okay at first, but it’s not that far off from regular Diet Mountain Dew, and the diet aftertaste is stronger. Supernova is kinda too sweet (though nowhere near as sweet as Typhoon was), but it’s better than Voltage.

You know, I couldn’t help but notice Panda’s possessive looks at his little panda when Jon grabbed it by the end of the video. When he put it back on the chair, I kept thinking he’s gonna take it, he’s gonna– and he did, and I kinda… squee’d (?) a little.
