My theory is that the accelerator locked his body into the state it was in when the lept. Because of this injuries are reverted between leaps and he never needs to shave.

Another thought, to Sam it may seem like he’s popping out of one place and popping into another, but to Al it may seem like Sam disappeared for a while. The past and present don’t need to stay synced up. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if they remember their adventures in a different order.

Throughout the series Sam suspects his leaps are being guided by the will of time, God, or something he doesn’t have word for. So if something doesn’t sense just remember that a timer wizard who runs a saloon did it.

If you have ever seen the series “Dead Like Me” there is a similar dynamic in that:

    [SPOILER ALERT]

the “reapers” are given a new appearance by “management” that the living see, and they see that appearance in mirrors and film etc., but to each other they appear as they did when they were alive. It’s explained that this is in case they run into people that knew them when they were alive and not to create confusion.

    [END SPOILERS]

If you have not seen “Dead Like Me” – Oh my god, go and watch it already! I envy that you get to experience it for the first time, that show is amazing! At least watch season one, which wraps up nicely and tells a great story. Season two is good, but optional as it doesn’t ever reach the levels of amazing season one does, but doesn’t detract from it either.

I have got to find time to binge this series eventually, especially now that reruns of it are on SyFy.
