Haven’t even watched it yet, just wanted to comment that I don’t know why these videos are so enjoyable, maybe it’s the weird sense of nostalgia seeing a property you like being butchered combined the Schadenfreude of watching Phelan expertly mocking it.
Enough mindless commenting, time to watch the turtle trainwreck once again!
It’s ironic how at the start of Next Mutation, FOX tried to tout it as a more mature Turtles series, only to have it grind out even goofier fare than most of the Turtles’ cartoons. The 1987 TMNT got pretty silly sometimes, but Next Mutation makes the ’87 show look positively Shakespearean by comparison. Heck, Next Mutation makes Hee Haw look like Nova.
I think to put a finer point on it, the 1987 animated Turtles was silly, but it had an actual comedic tone that tried to work within each story. Sure, it was humor aimed at kids, but it wasn’t insulting to our precious little brains. This show is just noise and nonsense being thrown at you so it feels aimed even younger, while at the same time the Turtles are all pretty awful in their selfishness and petty disagreements – you aren’t sure if they were aiming poorly for what they thought would appeal to edgy X-ennial teens, or emulating how small bratty children interact.
I would say that this is another case of 90s writers not understanding how computer technology works (and judging from your internet horror reviews, many writers still don’t), but that would imply that there was any competent writing in this show to begin with. Plus, I think even those writers would know this is not how computers work.

Definitely agree.
