Was that a wolverine she swerved to miss? Huh. Those don’t crop up in movies all that often.

There’s a surprising number of Christmas movies with a kidnapping plot, or at least subplot. Die Hard, The Ref, Mixed Nuts…all of which are much better than this looks.

Looks like not only was Sabrina kidnapping Slater, but her mom is public defender Christine Sullivan! (Markie Post of Night Court)

This movie is basically female wish fulfillment. Usually only male fantasy wish fulfillment movies are this dumb and blatant, but it’s 2007…and time for the ladies to get they some AC Slater fanservice!

With movies like this however, whether aimed at men or women, the fiance’ or girlfriend/boyfriend that gets the shaft so that our love interests can be together when the credits roll often comes as such an afterthought.  This one seems especially egregious because it doesn’t even look like she cheated on him or did anything to merit being dumped besides that she wasn’t the top-billed star who had a successful teen sit-com for several years like Melissa.

I love your reindeer hat and gizmo in the corner 😛 Oh what have they done to Melissa Joan Hart? Kidnapping! For Christmas!

This sounds like the setup for a dark comedy that satirizes these kinds of movies. However, the whole thing is supposed to be taken as endearing. Are you sure this wasn’t supposed to be a Hallmark or Lifetime movie? It has all the trappings and trimmings of one. I’m glad you mentioned the gender-swap thing, because you know someone would have brought it up if you didn’t.

I’d still rather watch this than God’s Not Dead 2 though.
