Oh my God, I hope you come across more hilariously bad spin-off novels in the future, because this is amazing. Your comedic timing, the music and sound effects, the pictures and clips, your expressions, you reading from the book, everything. I’m so glad that novel exists so that this review could be made.

Hey, did you know that there will be no more lifeguards in the future?

I was thinking that same thing about the Futurama episode where Fry becomes his own grandfather as you go on with the story in the book there.  Sadly, it would seem like the guys that produced Futurama may have read that same novel at some point for an idea, but that is just a guess.

I did watch some of Quantum Leap back in the day, but largely was Sea Quest DSV and shows like Hercules and Xena.   Although when this was on Sci-Fi, I think I focused more on X-Files and the cheap movies instead, good times…good times.

I knew Mr. Monk had a novel series, but I had no idea there were Quantum Leap books. It would have been great to know this 20 years ago, when I went to a Jr. High that school had jack shit worth reading. Then I’d come home from school & watch Quantum Leap, MacGuyver, Murder She Wrote, Hart to Hart, Fantasy Island, Wheel of Fortune, & The Price is Right.

Oh Allison, you can’t be geeky enough.

I knew you’d bring up Back to the Future or Futurama: Roswell That Ends Well. It was my first thought too.

No…Maybe it’s better that I didn’t know this book existed in middle school. XD

Actually, I suspect it wouldn’t be incest. Sam leaps into OTHER people’s bodies. And even if the body was his great great great… etc grandfather, the BODY Sam is in is not a relation to the woman. Even if Sam is.

Now I’m not trying to defend the book. The book sounds pretty lousy. But the idea of incest really isn’t an issue, as Sam is like a disembodied spirit. He merely inhabits the body. It isn’t his body (even if there is a direct relation down the generations). The woman, in this case, is not related to the man Sam inhabits They, at best, will get married. Presumably in the future.

Also, none of Sam’s DNA would be passed down to a child of these two people.

Sam’s body leaps, he only projects the aura of the person he’s leaped into. He even has an illegitimate daughter at one point. Though technically speaking they’re 200 years apart and that means that he shares very little DNA with this woman, it’s just…it’s so creepy.

        Point taken.

I didn’t see much of the show since I was only a casual watcher of it. But I got the impression it was other people’s bodies, and he merely had control for the time of the leap. I suppose they delved into the specifics of it during the show’s run. Probably during episodes I never saw in it’s original run.

But the whole “is it incest’ thing is not a very strong argument. Especially considering the generational gap it probably wouldn’t have had any real impact on any potential offspring.

And if you go back far enough, everyone is probably faintly related to everyone else in the world… Who knows? Maybe if you look far enough back, you and Phelous might share an ancestor or two? Kinda creepy thought that… 😛

Admittedly it’s been a while since I’ve seen the specific episode I’m referring to, but wasn’t there a leap where Sam was in the body of a pregnant lady and actually gave birth?

If it’s his body that leaps, rather than just inhabiting the body of whoever he leaps into, how was he able to have a baby with his man plumbing?

Yes, that episode is also the first time they explained that it’s Sam’s body and he just projects the aura of the person he’s leaping into. Sometimes he gets traits from the person he leaps into, usually a personality thing but occasionally physical, like with the pregnant woman. In that case, the two of them were bonding so the baby wouldn’t be born in the future.

As for how he could give birth with man plumbing, I dunno, magic?

Great video, but what’s up with the audio quality? At first I thought it was because of the new set up and you’d work out it but its still happening 3: like the echoing is really uegh, it didn’t use to be like this? I have really sensitive hearing so it’s really unpleasant to listen to and I’ve been skipping on your content lately unless it’s something I’m really interested in lately.

XD Ok, I love this episode. Way more than I probably should because I know next to nothing about Quantum Leap. I should probably check it out though. It sounds like something I could actually get into.

I was sitting at work today doing my work thing wishing I could get paid to come into work and write dumb fanfiction for the internet instead. I am now kinda annoyed because I know for a FACT I can write a better plot than grandma incest and that means someone got paid to write dumb fanfiction and it wasn’t me!

But then again, seeing as I refuse to write romance fanfiction, that’s probably why Grandma incest stories get published and I don’t.

This is probably the most I’ve enjoyed a Movie Nights. IMO it doesn’t feel as awkward for me since you’re talking to the audience as opposed to talking to Phelan or Brad.

Loool. I think to be fair most of those “original novels” for TV shows (especially those no one but us uber nerds would read) have probably always been stories that some aspiring novelist wrote a few years prior but could never successfully sell to anyone… until they changed the names and a few bits of the plot around to match some popular TV show. XD

I remember the X-Files novels, oh god… some were quite cool (I loved “Ruins” when I was younger and even got it on cassette), but most were varying levels of OOC. (I remember Mulder had some type of Swedish girlfriend on rollerskates in one of them??)

Still better than the 300-page Alien novel I read that contained, at best, four pages with xenomorphs (the titular aliens).
