How did you like this movie more than Silent Hill?! This movie had almost NOTHING to do with the game. Oh yeah, and it sucked balls of cheese
With this, it at least tried to tell a new story with the one presented; it still failed, though, espectially with the sequels, which made it worse. With Silent Hill, it had potential, but they nearly completely butchered the first game’s story, characters, and such.
but it did not butcher the series and characters (the sequals did though :P) the plotline had holes and clueless boring characters but at least the characters where not that annoying… this movie still sucks though but it is not that bad

I saw this movie when I was quite a bit younger. Must have been about 12 or 13 or so. I was staying with a friend at his grandparent’s cottage (now their full time house). His grandmother is also my mother’s friend. Anyway, he wanted to watch a movie and it was a choice of either this one or Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the Platinum Dunes remake. I didn’t want to see either as I knew both franchises were associated with horror and I didn’t like horror. Still not a big horror fan, though I did sit through Insidious last Halloween. I chose this one, though wound up watching the other one later. Luckily for me, neither can really be classed as a horror. Neither are really that scary.
I never played Resident Evil, so I never felt this film was an abomination on the game series. As a movie I didn’t think it was that bad. Then again, this was over a decade ago. At least you said these aren’t as bad as the sequels. I have a bit of a morbid curiosity about the sequels. They kind of look interesting as dumb action movies if you remove any connection with the games (which shouldn’t be that hard, given you said the characters are hardly their game counterparts anyway). Sure the plot is dumb, but sometimes that can be looked past, or laughed at like a comedy.
Also, was it ever revealed why that one guy stole the T-virus and infected the secret facility? I think I read he wanted to sell it on the black market, but I’m not sure.
Oh, yeah. Forgot to mention something.
I know this song is like 8 years old, but I just heard it recently. Seems Timbaland sampled the Red Queen for the song Kill Yourself on his 2007 album Timbaland Presents Shock Therapy.
