Great video about a really interesting failure of a movie. It sort of seems like a loose ripoff of Roger Rabbit what with the 2nd class citizen creatures as minorities + film noir elements.
It also reminds me of a comic book called Elephant Men about genetically engineered animal/human hybrids bred as bioweapons and then forced to re-enter society once the war was over. It’s pretty dark and played totally straight.
That dinosaur’s eyes are CREEPY! I don’t like it. Also, 33:35-33:40 was really funny though. Lupa’s Goofy impression for the win.
What a confused film. One minute Theodore Rex is mugging, going nuts over cookies and doing shtick involving quick impressions and costume changes like a zany cartoon character, then the next minute he’s banging a female dinosaur after another dino is brutally murdered. Make up your mind, movie. You’re either a kids cartoon or a gritty sci-fi crime drama. You can’t be both.
Thing is, there’s something to the idea of genetically bred intelligent creatures (in this case, dinosaurs) living among humans in the not-too-distant future. Too bad this film never really explored that element. That might have made a more entertaining film than the one that we got here.
I remember renting this on VHS, thinking it was a sequel to Brian Henson’s Dinosaurs TV series.
