(sigh) I already miss Tokka & Rahzar. at least they were cool & memorable in both the 2nd film & the 1987 series. also, Groundchuck almost looks like he’s turning into Minatek from Bio F.R.E.A.K.S.

sounds more like a rip off of Batman & Robin if you ask me since Mr Freeze had to power his sub-zero cryosuit with Diamonds.

well, maybe rip off is such a strong word. there is a clear difference between an homage and a straight up rip off. if it was a rip off, it would be the same exact thing beat for beat. there was one design in one episode that clearly looks too similar to the Alien, but it’s not exactly the same. basically every single story, design, or concept is always going to be inspired by something. it all depends on how original that inspiration is and what direction they take that concept in.

Regarding the ‘Memo’ from Playmates:This is actually how the toy companies do it with tie-in cartoons. Hasbro does this with MLP:FIM, basically it’s ‘Use these characters’ and it’s left up to the writers’ discretion. Mind you, the writers on FiM do a BETTER job of it…

So I never did watch TMNT as a kid( I believe the show was in season 9 when I first found out about it) but was there ever a reason even a stupid one for why Shredder and Krang never made more mutants. This episode really makes the two brain dead as they make not one not two but three mutants..why couldn’t they do that before, it’s even worst when you see such a huge container holding the mutangen. And don’t anyone say “well they might all be as stupid as Bebop and Rocksteady” even if they were all idiots thousands of mutants would probably kill all four turtles. Also did none of the turtles think “hey that mutant turned back to normal after being electrocuted, maybe we could do the same to master Splinter” or did they think Splinter was originally a rat and not a person like in the comic book and movie, or hey since Donatello wanted to be a normal turtle at the start why didn’t he  electrocute himself to be normal. So much stupid.

Seriously, you’ve probably more thought into this then the writers did.

A lot of people writing kids shows back then (and probably still today) seriously underestimated the intelligence of their audience and figured kids wouldn’t notice errors.

a ruby laser wouldn’t be powered by the ruby, it would use the ruby as a focus.  Of course they could always make a laser that doesn’t use rubies but that would be smart.  Those alchemy machines could work by firing protons at mercury, or you know, other methods of nuclear fusion…

Ohhhh yes yes yes!!! Turtle reviews are my favorite! I love your Top 40 Silly Moments and the Turtles Forever review I’ve probably watched about a hundred times… I sincerely would be happy if you have plans to review future TMNT eps as well, Phealous!

Dude, seriously. “How many puppies did Donatello just squash?” is the best out-of-context line of all time. I could put it on a t-shirt and wear it around just to make people ask me about it, and then whatever terrible day I was having would be instantly better because I would start cracking up.

speaking of people named David Wise, composer David Wise did the music on all the Battletoads games. funny how we have 2 successful series of anthropomorphic characters who fights against evil forces and have people named David Wise involved. while I loved TMNT as a kid, I tend to lean towards Battletoads as an adult since I think it has more of a edge to it. maybe we should also get Shredder to team up with The Dark Queen in a TMNT & Battletoads cross over.

the funny thing is that I just found out that David Wise (writer of TMNT) also worked on the pilot to Battletoads as well. so, now we have both TMNT’s writer and Battletoads’ composer who are both named David Wise. man, these two series has more connections to each other than I originally thought.

They should change the origins of Turtles characters more often, just so we don’t get bored of it.  Like maybe the Turtles were created and trained by Shredder but then turned against him, and Splinter is just a talking rat monster they found in the sewer.

Michael Bay was going to have the Turtles be aliens until the script leaked and fans (rightfully) got mad. There have been so many versions of the Turtles, they’ll probably do your origin at some point.

    Welcome back, Phelous

I enjoyed your last Dragonball review (DBZ FTW, BTW), but that was a month and a half ago, nearly two months since your last PatM entry. It’s been so long I was worried that you left and (*shudders*) got a real job. *Shudders again.* Phelous, don’t ever. Scare. Me. Like. That. Again. Ever since (digital) menopause, I view your PatM videos as my new monthlies– and it’s been, like, 45 days since the last one.

Remember… you work for me now.

    Love,

    The Internet

I believe the gorilla mutant would have been the one wearing the mining helmet, it feels more correct than the lion wearing it. That would mean the lion mutant would have been the one with the metal hind-leg and hoof along with the metal eye and one metal horn protruding from his head. The lion mutant would have actually looked bad-ass if that was the case. What we got instead was lame.

Shredder is awesome at character design! He must be spending his free time drawing out possible mutant designs.

That was from the old post rank system on the previous version of the site but it hasn’t been implemented to actually change yet on this site. So, yeah, it’s kinda silly to still be there. I’ll probably have it taken out for now.

For a guy named “Tattoo” he has a lack of tattoos.

I mean.. Could they not had make it where his whole body was covered in tattoos OR have it where his tattoos gave him powers?

No.. Because that is to much like right I guess..

Yeah… trouble with a lot of 80’s, and to a smaller extent 90’s cartoons. They really felt the need to sell toys far above the plot and characters. There’s even a section of TFWiki (the transformers wiki) that goes into how far their franchise will go to sell toys. It’s a shame, but I guess that’s what you can expect from shows like TMNT, G.I. Joe and Transformers which were almost exclusively made for the purpose of toy advertisement. Hell, the whole reason for the softening of the TMNT characters, tone and plot was because they thought the comics weren’t marketable enough for kids because they actually had a plot and darker (though still silly) stories.

I honestly wish I could like this show, but the goofy tone, the outdated crummy animation, the jokes that (for me personally) almost always fall flat, and the truly dumb moments just make it an unbearable sit. Maybe it’s because I grew up with the 2003 show, which was in many ways more faithful to the original, had better animation, and more serious and complex plots and character development (as in it actually had any), and I didn’t really come across this version until I was in my late teens, so I never got what was supposedly so great about the ’87 cartoon.

8:50 “The news slump of the century.”

The worst reporting I ever saw was ‘Hard Copy’s FIVE PART WEEK LONG series ‘The Search For Rosa Lopez.’ (I’m not kidding! That was the actual title.)

Who the hell was Rosa Lopez? She was OJ Simpson’s maid whom moved back to Puerto Rico to avoid the publicly of the trial.

‘Hard Copy’ actually went to Puerto Rico trying to track her down so they could get her to reveal the “real killers.”

However, they NEVER FOUND HER!!! How this became a five part series which didn’t even feature the title person I have no idea!
