I still can’t believe they’ve made 5 of these movies.
And they’re still making more.
I have to be honest… my friends and I saw this in the theater (after a marathon of the previous movies), and we laughed our butts off the whole way through. I honestly thought this was the most hilarious film of the franchise. The random communist zombies, the whole ‘las plagas’ thing, the random alternate-version clones, and… and the fucking DRAGONS at the end! Maybe they’re from the later games, but they seemed so out of the blue at the end…
One thing I do have to say, though, is that of all the things they got wrong, I just loved the guy who played Wesker. Every line, every little expressionless ‘I’m so awesome’ moment just had me on the floor. Especially during the ‘They tested in America, and sold to the Russians’ scene. I swore that scene was ust going to loop for the next half hour… ‘They tested in Australia, sold it to New Zealand. They tested in New Zealand, sold it to Switzerland. They tested in Swizerland, sold it to… um… the Irish, I think.’
Don’t worry, though, the beginning of the next film will retcon the hell out of this conclusion (my money’s on ‘the whole white house thing was a simulation INSIDE a simulation and Alice wakes up at the ending of the first movie so we can redo the whole bloody thing!). Prepare for Resident Evil: Revengance… No wait, that’s already taken. Okay, okay, I’ve got it… Resident Evil: Rigormortis! See you in two years… Maybe three. Or four if you decide to regenerate again…
Aside from the budget they put into CGI and effects, these movies always came across as direct-to-DVD releases to me. I like to watch them for how stupid and shitty they are, but yeah… that’s the only quality to them.
Well… and they make for good reviewing-material of course.
I kinda liked the first one, because it had a lower budget and the bad writing kinda fit, as the movie had that campy b-movie-feel to it. Apocalypse had that too, although it felt more polished.
But since Extinction they’ve just become completely overblown FXtravaganzas with way too much slow motion and writing that is inexcuseable for the money they put into these piles of shit.

Killing Barry Burton should be a crime against humanity, even if it’s the one in this movie.
I’m assuming the aquatic zombies just came from the set of Dead Snow or something, explaining them being right under ground level.
That shot zooming out from the White House at the end was unbelievably ridiculous.
Wait…so there’s another one? God help us all… How can we continue without fake Barry?

The best part of watching this on DVD is the behind-the-scenes stuff, where I learned:
So does Plaga Rodriguez not have any phalange bones in her fingers? Seems like they’d get in the way of the bullet-expulsion thing. And what about the face-off music they keep playing- the first time or two its dramatic, but by the twelfth time they play it while Alice and Jill pose at each other its lost all impact.
I now believe that Alice could fight Nemesis, Mr. X, Leon, Chris, and Hunk at the same time. And Win. Without even trying.
I am surpirsed this whole review wasn’t just Phelous saying Fuck you to the movie.
Does anybody where the music played from 00:06 until 00:18 is from? i know its from an RE game, of course, but which one?
I don’t think it’s from a game, it sounds like the theme Marilyn Manson did for first RE movie (the only good bit of that movie…) remixed to sound video game-ish.
Yeah it was a silly version of that theme I asked Skitch to make for me back when I reviewed the 1st Resident Evil film.
I couldn’t even get myself to see this one because of how crappy the last one was.
At 5:40, why does the exploding cab flip away from Alice and towards the Executioners? Does it have main-character-detecting powers?

I thought exeactly same thing. Probably Anderson saw someone playing Starcraft and in the next movie Alice is going to transform into Kerrigan thanks to the Wesker’s power on device.
I swear these movies are just getting made for Phelous to review! Notice how Barry got the most bullets in him? Think it was Paul’s way of revenge for bad mouthing his masterpieces of mediocrity.
They’re so convoluted and ridiculous it has infected the games, I’ve given up on the game series but continue to play the originals and the best being Remake.
RE6 was a clusterfuck of a game that’s why Capcom is rebooting the series once again, hopefully it will be done with no influence from these atrocious movies and less trying to impress action gamers who like every game to be like COD.
As for ‘fans’ saying they like these god-awful movies because they’re an ‘alternate universe’, Fuck that! Don’t be making excuses for a hack director/writer who obviously has no idea what the games are about. He thinks the T (Tyrant) Virus is the shape of a ‘T’ FFS, T Virus gives people magical psychic powers, Las plagas are another mutation of T, he makes every character from the games an incompetent joke while Alice the all mighty Mary Sue steals the spotlight every time… No this guy isn’t a fan he’s just in it for the money and even the worst fan fictions make more sense than this poop on screen.
How dare Phelous review a horror movie, especially a Resident Evil one! We all know Phelous’s show is suppsed to be about reviewing kids movies about aliens and product placement. He sold out, I’m not watching his videos anymore. *cry*
I can’t believe… I can’t believe there are some people who still watching and enjoying these crappy movies. First movie was decent action movie (not perfect, but watchable), but this reminds some bad Doctor Who episode… or worst Sy Fy movies. Actually, I know some low budget Sy Fy movies that’s plot and effects are much better, than in this one. Paul Anderson is just an idiot. He has no shame or good taste.
Dragons in Resident Evil? Very nice. What’s next – giant killer tomatoes with T-virus and Las Plagas?
Literally the only compliment I could give this film is that it wasn’t Afterlife. So far I think that was the worst film in the franchise, which is quite a feat considering they’re all pretty terrible. While the others at least had the benefit of being a little funny because of just how terrible they are, Afterlife was just downright boring and my sister and I found ourselves talking through the entire thing instead of watching it since the discussion of what we ate for dinner the last night or how she had a weird glitch playing Mass Effect the other day was a lot more entertaining than that drek.
Good review Phelous – even if I still liked the film overall – but is it really necessary to have two minute long mid-rolls in a 22 minute review? I understand you’ve gots to get paid, but two mid-rolls is just overkill.

In general you’ll get a lot more than 2 ads breaks per 20 some mins so I don’t think I’m asking that much of you. If it annoys you having them play in the middle you can always run through them at the start.
Can’t wait for even more pointless “game characters” in the sixth RE movie. Who’s ready for Rebecca and Billy from Resident Evil 0? Or maybe if they’re really creative, they’ll pick someone even more pointless like Bruce McGivern from Resident Evil Dead Aim.

Phelous, don’t pay any attention to those miserable bastards who keep complaining about the things you choose to do with your own damn show!! Review what you want, not just horror because those trolls fear change, and your real fans don’t mind the ads because we know it keeps you making more funny videos.
Keep making horror reviews (Can’t wait for more Jason), keep making nostalgic reviews (as I said before, the Turtles concert videos are my absolute favorites) and I hope you keep doing the Bootleg Zone.

did you know that Ada’s actress in this movie was actually dubbed over by Sally Cahill,Ada’s actual voice from Resident Evil 2,4 and Darkside Chronicles?They did something right for a change(sure,they are still characters only in-name and in-looks,but at least Ada also had the voice from the games…)
I think the only way they can possibly pour some sense into the franchise is if they reveal in the next film that events in Extinction and Afterlife were a training simulation or some crap like that. I know it sounds stupid, but least it would make some sense. Alice gets captured in the end of Apocalypse, yaddayaddayadda, they run the simulations, at some point Red Queen goes rogue and Wesker has to bail Alice out to stop her. There weren’t a world-wide event until this film; It was only after RQ goes crazy and remakes the simulations in the real world. And Alice was a clone from the beginning! Dundunduuu.
I don’t know why I try to make sense out of this film serie.
You know what saddens me? I think I can see now how the series will (eventually) end XD. She gonna end up dying to save humanity, isn’t she? She a tragic loner hero, with godlike powers and seemingly detached from her allies (she has to be. Everyone she gets close to dies blah blah blah). That’s really the only direction I can see them going (unless Paul Anderson divorces her between now and then). I’m afraid he’s setting her up for a Heroic Death, and that just makes me sick 🙁
On a positive note, I’ve been a longtime fan of yours (since your Cabin Fever video. You’re the only person who’s made me change my mind about Eli Roth. Kudos to you.). Keep up the good work and thanks for the laughs!
