And yet, despite its flaws, it’s still better than Rob Zombie’s Halloween II.
Maybe the junior Ghostbusters were planning to become junior Planeteers if this gig didn’t work out? Is that what the rings are for?
Also, was there anybody who worked on this show that didn’t think Q5 was full of shit? It seems every writer who worked there saw through all of their nonsense.
Fun Fact: Q5 Janine was one of Kath Soucie’s first voice acting gigs. She was all of 15 years old when she was voicing Janine.
Your hatred for Dave Coulier’s Peter Venkman I believe is on par with Diamanda Hagan’s hatred for the 10th Doctor. Maybe even more so. It’s a shame what Q5 did to garble up the Real Ghostbusters series. Also, Janine’s voice to me sounds very similar to some of the badly dubbed animes I’ve watched Bennett the Sage review on Anime Abandon. I wonder if Kath Soucie had voiced those characters as well. Maybe it’s just me.
I’m surprised you didn’t make a Captain Planet reference with the rings. That’s what was going through my head when that scene was happening. Maybe it was too obvious.
I liked that the writers were taking shots at the executive meddling. It’s too bad that the only people that actually thought that Q5’s ideas were good were the producers of the show.
I definitely remembered “Devil to Pay.”
I’m trying to remember if there was EVER a child sidekick in a cartoon that I DIDN’T want to dropkick down a 50ft dam. Flimflam from the 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo is the only one I can think of.
For a moment there. I thought they were going to summon Captain Planet.
This Janine is more of a Janot, Janope, or a Janein.
Just imagine if everyone listened to Q5. We’d have Snarf & the Thunderkittens, or Orko & the Juniors of the Universe.
Hmm, I didn’t hate Reptil from Marvel’s Super Hero Squad Show, in fact, he was one of my favorite characters on that. Though Toby Fair, Reptil was more of a rookie than an add-on sidekick.
Good “food for thought” question…kid or sidekick that you didn’t want to punch?
– Penny from Inspector Gadget – was more or less the subversion of this trope: She was placed in the sidekick role, but she basically solved everything while Gadget blundered around like a dopey cyborg disaster.
– Ohno from Mighty Orbots – was technically not a sidekick, but she didn’t engage in much fighting and was modeled to look like a child. She was actually quite competant, feisty, and came up with useful ideas to more than offset her occasional blunders (which everyone on the team sometimes made). She was literally the “heart” of Mighty Orbots – or a glorified ignition key if you want to be cynical.
Good point. Penny & Brain had to be around to prevent Gadget from nearly killing himself every 5 minutes, like a baby with a fork in a room full of electric sockets….So fitting that he was voiced by Agent Maxwell Smart.
Slimer notices they don’t eat the candy the kids give them meaning only thing – They have diabetes and didn’t take their insulin!
I do remember this episode vaguely. This was second season ABC, so it was in that era of watchable but not great. As a kid, I always thought the ABC stuff was just the “NEW” episodes for Saturday Morning cartoon time and they just kept changing it over time to try and make it more “cool for the kids” as it got more popular…until they flat out ruined it with Slimer and The Real Ghostbusters which was just unwatchable.
I guess there was a reason I liked the weekday ones …which I just thought were the “old” episodes better.
But thanks to your videos on Q5, I know it was much more insidious – and stupid.
I should have asked this weeks ago when the comments were more active, but what is everyone;s favorite RGB episode? Mine is “Play Them Ragtime Boos” from season 2.
