In Super Mario Land 2 for the Game Boy, you spin jumped by pressing down for as long as you wanted to spin.  So you could rapidly alternate between spin and regular jump by pressing down repeatedly during a jump, which was silly but didn’t really detract from the game at all.  I thought it worked great,

I have played this on the SNES with my friend Mikey when we were children. I did recognize some details like the water levels, the cape, and whatever else I tried to recall. I wonder if my friend still has it since I think I like to play it again just for good old times. We also played the original first 2 Mortal Kombat games on the SNES and Sega Genesis, Trilogy on the N64, and have played everything besides MKX (Shaolin Monks is one of our other favorite titles). 😀
