Sweet! Part 2 already! I knew there was a reason why I took a break from doing schoolwork to fool around on the internet! πŸ˜€

Man, the second half of this movie is somehow even worse than I imagined. Besides the horrible editing and technical aspects, the story is beyond ridiculous. I guess the moral is be good to the environment or exploding .gif birds will attack you! Of course, since I laughed out loud at the sheer insanity of many of the clips you posted, I think I might have to track this thing down.

Oh, also, your spoof of the movie at the end was hilarious and spot-on. Great job, and I’m glad you did this in two parts because all of that insanity couldn’t fit in one normal-length video. I wonder if any of your neighbors saw you out there flailing a coat hanger around? Although I guess they must be used to that kind of thing by now. πŸ˜‰

I feel silly asking this, but was the cougar actually in the movie or did you add that?

I think the best bird effect was when they randomly crashed into something and flattened. Made me laugh every time.

Does anyone watch Archer? Both Nguyen and Mallory started with a romantic thriller – his turned into…whatever you’d call this, and Mallory’s turned into Mandingo 2.

As always, your parody was lightyears ahead in technical competance and acting ability. I would love to see what you could do with an actual budget!

God, I have to get this movie.

Yup, that “Cougar noise” was actually in the movie.

I’ve been trying to think, who was the bet actor in this movie? I think it might have been Nat’s mom.

So it had the noise, but was the cougar picture there too?

Yeah, the mom seemed the best. Natalie wasn’t that bad either (not wooden, anyway) except when she was trying not to laugh. I won’t fault her for not wanting to hug Rod. πŸ˜‰

I need to know this also. And holy god, I want to think that the writer/director/producer/interviewee is just deadpan trolling, because of my desire for there to be heroes in the world (he would be the greatest). At first I imagined he was some immigrant who just wanted to make a movie where the idiosyncratic script was read verbatim, a la Troll 2… but his English is so good I don’t know if that’s possible. I think he just made an amazingly bad flick and is sticking by it to the point where you have to kinda give him credit for his insane integrity. Hey, watching you play with ducks was pretty fun, too, because around here we only really get Canada geese who can be belligerent if you approach. Where was the extra scene of you feeding one from your hand and explaining to it that you come in peace, so it doesn’t have to explode at you?

I watched the movie (or should I say “movie”) last night and the cougar picture isn’t in it. It really says something about Birdemic when that’s something to legitimately wonder about! πŸ™‚

Yeah, I bought the dvd and just watched it, so I was sorry not to see the cougar. πŸ™‚

This dvd is the “commercial” release as opposed to the original version in the review, so it disappointingly cuts out the stupid Tony runs away for no reason scene and cleans up a couple of the edits.

The weird thing is, it seemed pretty clear to me in part 1 that Rod told Nathalie she looked “divine,” but on this dvd he says “fine.”

It does have 2 commentaries on it – watching the director’s one right now & it is hilarious! The guy is so earnest about how good his movie is and the messages in it, and best of all, the sound actually cuts during the commentary too! :awesome:

The version I got is the original version, but I wish I had the commentaries and stuff! It sounds really funny. It does seem like the director takes the movie very seriously. I’m afraid to know what else he thinks are “good” movies, besides An Inconvenient Truth. πŸ™‚

He’s a huge fan of Hitchcock, as you can probably tell by this taut thriller. πŸ˜‰ He talks endlessly about the green stuff, and everything about the movie is great. I learned that the birds went away at the end because doves came and chased them away. Never got that from the movie itself.

The other commentary is with Rod, Nathalie, and some guy who’s watching the movie for the 23rd time. They rip on it. Nathalie was underage during most of filming, and has created a drinking game for the movie. Rod had to rent the Mustang on his own credit card because the director doesn’t have one, the slow walking was the direction given, not his choice, and the “lovers on the moon” line was super important to the director.

You should definitely track down this version!

Chaos D1 has really cute plushies, especially the peacock one. Isn’t he supposed to be former marine? πŸ™‚
Was that blood shoting out of the gun?
Did you add any of the music or it was all in the movie?
And why are your sleeves rolled up?

Anyway it was great review for a really terrible movie I can’t believe some people think it’s intentionally bad.
Your parody of it was hilarious but you forgot to make a picinic and that’s unforgivable.
And it’s nice to see you die again. Ehm, not that I’m happy to see you suffer or anything.

The director actually thinking that those birds look realistic sent me into a fit of laughter. My god, this movie is awful. I’m not sure if this movie tops the room, just because Tommy Wiseau’s accent is so iconically strange. Although, that may depend on whether you find wooden acting or bad accents funnier.

These videos have made my law school career so much more tolerable!!!  This is one of the best… I am astounded that someone could make such a bad movie… He HAD to mean it as a joke… Could he find worse actors?  Could the effects be worse?  I believe rubber birds on a string could have worked as well!  The script is one of the worst I have ever seen… The dialog is unnatural and characters act illogically. This movie makes Manos Hands of Fate look like a masterpiece!

It’s like all those truth about tobacco commercials that are so lame that every time I see one I reach for my pack of cigs. Or that commercial where Wanda Sykes bitches at a bunch of teenagers who call something gay when they mean dumb or stupid. If it wasn’t for Eli Roth I’d be calling everything gay by now.

By being this pathetic the makers of this film have essentially doomed the Earth.  I’m a little concerned about global warming but I don’t want to be in a group that includes them. The scientist and the tree hugger were complaining about global warming.  Why not just have the hot blond chick say something about it once, preferably in her underwear? I know that sounds sexist but I think we should sacrifice feminism if it saves us from a world were birds explode. Wow what a sentence that is.

In summation: Coolness always wins. The Earth is doomed.

Bwahaha, wonderful review, Phelous… I was going to say that the first part was a bit dry, but I’ve seen the movie, so I know that’s just the film.

Interesting note: the version you reviewed was the self-released version the director put out on DVD. The new Severin DVD (a friend bought it for me. Seriously! My friends are fools like that!) is a ‘director’s cut’ that totally revamps the whole film and makes it better… No, it just omits that ‘kid runs to the cave’ scene because the director claims ‘test audiences’ were offended by it. Seriously.

I did wonder about James Ngyuen. I want to say that you have to try to make a film this poor, but I listened to the commentary (sample comment: “You see, this scene is like Apocalypse Now, showing how the couple
with the van is all crazy, like, survivalists. Maybe hinting at how they
knew this Birdemic was coming for them. They were, like, smart.”) . It really makes me want to see the other film he wants to make outside of Birdemic 2, supposedly called Peephole: The Perverted

Also, I wonder about the repeated playing of not-quite John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ through the movie, and the constant ads for Yoko Ono’s website. Did she fund this stinker? Or have anything to do with it? Or should she just sue? *snicker*

This two-parter was the best thing you’ve done in a while. What the hell was up with this movie? The editing in this film was such shit you do when you try to edit a video for the first time in your life… Clearly no one gave a damn or put any love into this film. I thought Five Across The Eyes was the worst and most amaturish thing you had reviewed, but this is so much worse. I really didn’t believe it when I saw those birds the first time… Thought it was something that where edited in to set up some of your gags. Man… This was so bad. The enviromental dialogue part is even more awkward and hysterically inapropriatly placed than in Nightmare City. At the second part, I really doubted that it was meant as a serious film, but the  behind the scenes segment seem possitively hilarious. I’m gonna buy this if I ever see it around, just for seeing the producer/wrighter/director trying to justify something that looks like a direct-to-Youtube movie to be a serious atempt on a feature film. From the extremely appropriate Halloween soundtrack, to Awkward News, to the Flock of Seagulls soundtrack, to the spot-on spoof ending… this was brilliant.

Like I said earlier, the commentaries are hilarious. Nguyen seems to genuinely not know why people think the movie is funny and talks really seriously about how good it is. Case in point: he calls the opening music “foreboding.” :awesome:

Foreboding… umh… yeah. Man,  I might have to get it on DVD, it sounds priceless to hear him talk about the film. Plus; the film is a textbook example for what NOT to do when you shoot and edit a film. Serves as good education for any aspiring filmmakers watching πŸ™‚ Normally I’m not encouraging reviewers to make fun of amaturish films when they are meant to be comedic; since that’s just mean spirited… But when a film of this ‘quality’ tries to be taken seriously, it’s got it comming!

The director is making a sequal in 3D. I think he may out do himself in making an even worse movie.

I am checking out the offical website. I love the info on the actress who played the main girl. I think one of the kids wrote it. This is what it says and I quote

“Whitney Moore is a talented actress. BIRDEMIC is Whitney’s first feature film.”

    Yup thats it. Nothing else.

and surprise surprise look at the main actors bio also it is and I quote a again

“Alan Bagh is a talented actor. BIRDEMIC is Alan’s first feature film.”

Wow the director really gave the 2 main actors in his movie so much respect. He didn’t bother asking about anything else. Like maybe seeing if they modeled or did any community theater or hell even school theaters or anything. Just they are talented actors and it is there feature film debut. If you can call it a feature film.

I watched The Birds about a week ago and I can clearly see how James Nguyen was influenced by it. It is obvious that he is trying to make a film in that same style.Β  That would explain things like why the first half of the movie was supposed to be a romantic drama without a bird attack. The Birds didn’t really have bird attacks until the second half (other than one minor one), with the first half being a drama that centers around a potential romance. The main difference being one of these movies was made by the greatest horror/suspense director of all time, Alfred Hitchcock, and the other by James Nguyen.

Even more embarrassing is that The Birds, a 50 year old movie, actually had excellent special effects.Β  Honestly, many of them would hold up even today.Β  Even the worst effect in Hitchcock’s movie are better than the best effects in Nguyen’s.
