I always thought it was frustrating on Voyager how they had five main Starfleet male leads, and the writers only seemed to know what to do with Tom and the Doctor.
Tuvak – I am logical and serious
Chakotay – I am Native American
and Kim – I am naive and nerdy
Were all pretty one note, especially Chakotay. At least Tuvak had comedic interplay with Neelix, and Kim acted as Tom’s buddy/hero worshiper. Like Alison said in the video, Chakotay’s only other function seemed to be occasional “will-they won’t-they” interest for Janeway.
