Always like greeting a corny old friend – Baywatching!
Yeah, the Beach Boys were one of those bands that had a bunch of comeback/reunions through the 80’s and 90’s. They always get lauded as these musical geniuses, but mostly I always thought they wrote some very catchy pop tunes at best.
Dick Dale was much cooler, and teens in 1995 might of actually known that because of the Pulp Fiction soundtrack, I know I did.
However, I feel Baywatch exists in a universe where Quentin Tarrantino movies, MST3K, and Soundgarden do not exist. A much less cool version of the 90s where we never grew tired of 80s shows like Knight Rider and the original Star Trek is the only one that will ever exist.
The Beach Boys were always a lame dad band. I remember when the movie Cocktail came out with Tom Cruise and MTV kept playing Kokomo by the Beach Boys over and over. If boredom could stab your eyes and ears out, it would be that song. I never understood why they are considered “surf” music. Dick Dale is an incredible musician and he still rocks in his 80s. He’s entitled to be known a surf legend.
Am I the only one who wanted Mitch to veer off track about meeting the Beach Boys and begin telling everyone how it instead lead him to meet Charles Manson?
