Heh, this thing was released (box date at least) the same year of my birth. I don’t know why, but that always feels odd to have a knockoff as old as I am featured. What’s confusing about this one is, why did they have slightly-slanted ovals instead of diamonds if they wanted to trick kids? This robocop figure bears a little resemblance to the MOVIE Power Rangers with the armoured look, but surely it’d be more effective to rip the thing off with the same diamond look? And it’s not like other bootlegs got in serious trouble when they did even more blatant rip-offs of Power Rangers and other media. Those sound effects. I can’t name the number of times I heard all of those sounds on various figures all the time as a kid. Mostly on crap I didn’t care about at the time.
Wow, I guess I was just figuring the electronics would sound like some blinky noise effect like from the other “Robocop” sentai figure, but having it be the gun stock noises made it beautiful. You didn’t grow up through the 90s without either owning or having friends who had a huge stockpile of those lame guns, but after ALL THESE YEARS I still remembered the correct order of the noises. That’s really, really sad.
Funnily enough, one of the influences for Robocop was the Tokusatsu Metal Hero Space Sheriff Gavan, so turning Robocop into a Power Ranger is kind of a full circle thing.
When you mentioned the Fantasy World line, I thought of Galaxy Warriors before Masters of the Universe just because I’ve been here too long. If it turned out that this was related to the Galaxy Hole I might’ve screamed.
I’m actually rather impressed that they managed to make the weapons’ light-up function work. Basic electronics, yes, but far above what I usually expect from these figures.
I was actually impressed that the light & sound functions worked at all, given the toy’s age. It wouldn’t have been the first time that a fresh set of batteries failed to produce different results here in the Bootleg Zone…

The buttons on the back remind me of the colored chest squares from Power Rangers In Space.

Also “It’s ok, we have gunsssssss……”
Haha yeah I know right? It seems they were always in the same order on these things too.
A red full body suit with a rear latch? Go go Long Johns Rangers!

“Looks like someone’s got a phone call from Death!”
“Death called. He doesn’t want Robo-Ranger, so he’s throwing him back like a small fish.” 😛
mr. phelous, have you ever thought, of creating bootleg zones, the movie?
Go Go Seizure Rangers!
