It’s impossible to skip army of darkness as the events play part of both Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. They will reference that he went back in time, but no recapping.

How can you have the rights to Evil Dead but NOT Army of Darkness?

yeah i wasnt sure so i went looking and came across an interview with rob tapert

Says Tapert of the show’s context:

[Ash Vs. Evil Dead] doesn’t really exist in the exact same universe. It’s a slightly altered universe. It takes place somewhere in an alternate universe after Evil Dead 2. That might seem like a confusing answer. I don’t want to spoil too much for the audience, but that’s the truest answer I can give. We would be seeing similar locations, meaning it lives in a modern day world with Ash battling evil in this era, the modern day. Ash went through that [Army of Darkness] experience, but we’re not really referencing it in terms of we’re not referencing specifics from that, but he certainly has that in his memory.

plus according to imdb, universal studios was the production company of army of darkness

Well, that’s clear as mud. 🙂

Can I assume it’s like what happened to Romero when he wanted to include a recap in “Land of the Dead” but didn’t have the rights to any of the movies so he had to make all new stuff?

Maybe they can have Ash mention it but not show it?  I could see it be something he doesn’t talk about because maybe, when he first got back, he talked about it and people thought he was nuts so he just stopped talking about it anymore.

I haven’t seen this show yet. mostly because I don’t have access to Starz anymore. the only recent horror TV shows that I actually really liked was Hannibal. kind of disappointing that we aren’t getting anymore seasons, but for what it’s worth, it’s still a well made show. I hope it does well and that people will like it. but as for me, I’ll wait to either watch it online or until I can get a chance to see it on DVD.

I’m looking forward to it. I’ll probably record the whole season & then binge watch it.

Anyone here seen Evil Dead the Musical? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYxzgUIfGME

I was going to ask if it’s not loading for anybody else, but it turns out if I fullscreen the video it loads fine, even when I minimise it again. Really not sure what’s happening, but that was a bit frustrating. I haven’t seen the episode yet, but I loved Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness, so hopefully I enjoy it as much as you two clearly did. It’s also really refreshing hearing you two talking about something you’re not only excited for, but that you actually enjoyed! I love the SPN podcastisodes, but you can definitely tell the show’s beating you over the head by now.

who knows, maybe in either Season 2 or 3 we can get a single episode treated as a special where we can finally have Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash. since the Necronomicon was in Jason Goes To Hell, it would be a fun crossover event that the fans of all 3 franchises can really enjoy especially if it takes some inspiration from the comic books. if they can get the Predator in MKX, then I’m sure they can make this happen too with the right people, the right story, and the legal issues worked out.

I really enjoyed this pilot and I had fun predicting stuff, like “Oh the doll is going to bite his finger”, while my BF was saying “Bet it’s his nose!” It feels more like the fun part of Evil Dead that I enjoyed. The goofy weird stuff and random cheesy moments is what makes it a fun series for me.

They used a lot of practical effects as well as a bit of CGI but it was a nice blend and quite refreshing to see. Any fan of the original movies should watch this.

Ah, my piss poor facial recognition skills were at their finest watching this pilot. I hold up a close-up photo on my tablet of Ash from Evil Dead to a paused TV screen & say to Jerry & Randy “Who the fuck is this politician-looking guy? I thought Bruce Campbell was supposed to be playing Ash.”

We ended up fast-forwarding through the sex scene, as we had relatives over who could barge in at any minute. I don’t know if anything important was said, but it seemed to go on for a ridiculously long amount of time, like padding.

& you were right, the doll was remarkably fake looking at times. It did add a nice bit of cheesiness to it, & made us think of Child’s Play 2.
