Oh man, I agree with you about the DLC. I hate pretty much any type of DLC, even when its free. I’d like my game to stay the way it was when I paid for it, and if you are planning on adding more content later, then either wait to release the game until you’re DONE MAKING THE GAME, or put it in the sequel.

The worst is forced DLC, where the game forces the update unless you don’t have an internet connection, or requires you to update to be allowed online play. I already paid for the game, thank you, I don’t want you changing it! That’s like going to someones house and changing the ingredients in the food they bought before they even finish eating it.

(My line breaks don’t seem to be working. Not sure why.)

Hey Phelan, I’m begining to upload your videos (such as this) to YouTube in order to allow people who can’t run http://www.blip.tv properly. I hope that you don’t mind, and your website is linked in the description. This is currently uploading in 720p. Please respond if you need them taken down!

Too far Phelan. Too far. Also, your Barry impression sounds an awful lot like Nick Cage.

But please don’t change what you are doing anytime soon. I don’t know if your videos are 480, 720, or 1080; I just know that they work on my computer. They buffer fast enough and don’t stutter when I watch them on my ancient XP desktop with it’s onboard video chip. Lupa’s videos don’t work on this computer, and the only other TGWTG show I have problems with is Angry Joe. Fortunatly I have a much better laptop that I can watch their videos on but I don’t think everyone that wants to watch your shows are as fortunate as I am. So please don’t change anything anytime soon.

I had fun with the game. yes they’re going farther away from a survival horror, but eh, it was enjoyable. I was gonna get the Collectors edition one for the PS3 with all the old games, but then I found out it was all downloads I said ‘screw it’ Even if I haven’t played the old games in ages, that’s just dumb.

Wrong Turn 5 comes out on the 23rd. Or the 28th in the UK. I don’t where Canada fits in there. I bet you can’t wait! Apparently it’s a sequel to the prequel!

Games usually come out in Canada on the US release dates, athough sometimes they get delayed because of additional processing that needs to be done (such as adding French to all of the game boxes and instruction books).

I always wondered what your thoughts on the post RE3 Resident Evil games were and now I finally know! My major complaint about the new games isn’t the action emphisis (it is annoying though) but the serious lack of Barry. Barry deserves his own leading role (and a handheld gaiden game does not count). Resident Evil 7 should give Barry a storyline, even if it is him trying to make a sandwhich in the middle of zombie outbreak. Also they need to give Chris a yellow shirt so he can die forever, since he is dragging the series down with his sub par action bullshit. He was never that interesting to begin with anyways and Jill or Clair should return to a leading role since it has been a while. Plus Jill did star in Revelations which was the closest the series has been to classic survival horror in a while so if she returns to the main games maybe she can bring some of that horror sandwhichyness (yes I just said that) with her.

    Nice review.

This game has been getting a lot of napalm from reviewers who expected a survival horror. Even though I liked the first resident evil games more, I must admit that the direction the Resident Evil story has taken makes sense.

Once you know everything is about viruses and labs and bio-weapons developement, the horror component is greatly diminished… and, besides, there’s only SO MANY laboratory accidents that can happen before the thing gets repetitive. They tried to add mistery to stories by adding intrincate umbrella politics and new weird variations of viruses and bizarre mutations (Plagas? Pfff…), but that wasn’t very interesting anyway. Once you’ve seen the T virus, you’ve seen all of them. Knowing that this variant was discovered by Dr. Zaius or Dr. Sagnip is not a very big mistery.

It began as an isolated incident, the original cast survived the horror, learnt everything there is to know about A to Z viruses and made themselves heard, taking the fight to the enemy. And, with an enemy as incompetent as Umbrella Inc., it was impossible not to get enough evidence against them to force the government into a response. From the very first game, everything points to bio-weapons, so it makes sense that the story unfolds into a larger scale conflict. That IS what umbrella was working into anyway, isn’t it?

There wasn’t much horror left in the games anyway, because they already felt familiar… and familiarity doesn’t mix well with horror. Trying to insist into generating fear like in the old days with the same old monsters would be a losing strategy. The first time we saw a licker on that old CGI animation, most of us were “OH SHI-“, and now it’s more like “Oh, a licker. About time the things showed up.”One of the key components of Zombie horror is not knowing what the hell is wrong with the things… and if, from the very beginning, the zombies have an umbrella logo at their foreheads… where’s the irrational fear factor? Hell, even Silent Hill got familiar after a few games!

Summing up… Want a real survival horror? Start a new universe…. Or, if you MUST try to take the horror back into the resident evil games, try a new approach. Step away from the main story and characters. Who will be afraid of zombies if he is controlling someone like Leon S Kennedy or CHris Redfield? If you feel your character is a bloody expert in the monster hunting business… Why would you feel any kind of unease when facing the things? Even more so, in a world where zombies are something of the public domain up to the point where they have special government agencies to deal with them… well, the horror is completely out of the question.

Very fair review, I’m glad you didn’t just bash this like a prick. Thanks for being honest and making this funny. I could deffinately see a remake of Resident Evil 2 or 3 like they did for the first one. That would be alot of fun.

Great review and i was really excited to hear your own opinion on this due to your love of the previous games.

Also as far as you wanting to see a return to survival horror i recommend you play resident evi: revelations on 3ds (i know thats kind of a constraint if you don’t own one). The game is actually scary and I was actually worried i wouldn’t have enough ammo at times as the game is very stingy on ammo (on normal mode at least). Really hope that at some point you get a way to play it as i really think you would enjoy it.

Oh, it sucked and I hated it so much! But I did like the ending. I hated Piers so much through all the other senarios (I played Chirs’ last) and Chris’ senario did nothing to change that, till the ending. I liked it a lot actually. Hated everything leading up to it, but I did like the endind…Well, not the after ending, but the ending before the credits.

You should play Resident Evil: REvelations for the 3DS

In my opinion, if it had more puzzles, it would be the definitive RE game, not the best mind you, but its up there with REmake, 1, 2, and 3.

Also, I think Chris’ story would have worked better if instead of his whole platoon getting infected, it was somebody we knew like Jill or Claire(I’m not saying they should have killed them off or I want them killed off I’m just saying it would have been alot better, it would have been alot more tragic for both Chris and the Player. Of course I had to rent the game so I’ve only played a chapter of each story)

Hi, I just joined the site, but I have been a fan for a while. As my first comment I decided to say I pretty much feel the same way about this game as you do. For the most part, Leon’s campaign was the only one I really liked and the others, especially chris’, just felt like they dragged on. I miss the old capcom.

Hey Phelous, maybe you have already reviewed them and I missed them, but do have any plans on doing a review of the remake of Resident Evil and the prequel on the Gamecube? I would love to see a sort of timeline video of all the Resident Evil games, weighing the pros and cons of each game.

I am a pretty big RE fan and this game sure knew how to disappoint overall.  I loved Leons segment of the game it was the best part of the whole game.  My biggest problem with it was the split up storyline,  I wish it would have been one huge storyline and you would play the different characters as the story progressed instead of the actual system where you go through one side of it completely, then start over and go through the same segments again and again, pretty lame.  And while RE isn’t known for its well written stories, they tend to be pretty entertaining at the very least.  This one was hard to follow what was going on.  I did like the graphics and the gameplay was not as stiff as before so that was a plus.  I hope Capcom figures out how to get it right in the next installment or this series may actually die.

I finally started to play RE5… ($10 at an Edmonton Anime comvention)

    And…

I’ve gone back to finishing Silent Hill Downpour because the ending monsters of RE5 are not pushing my scary buttons at all. *rolls eyes* I’m SO glad I did not play full price for this one, especially since RE4 was SO GOOD on the Wii. (With the old controler of course.)

I have NO HOPE FOR RE6. *weeps pathetically*

Phelan: “Anyone else hate getting extra games as downloads? Put it on a damn disc!”

I bought Alice: Madness Returns, which came with Americna McGee’s Alice HD on EA’s Origin. Never could get the damn thing to download or play.
