Not to worry Phelous. I disagree with you as I like the original better than the remake but I can see you’re reasons. My big problem with this one was how they used pretty much every haunted house cliche and applied it to the Amityville story. The original wasn’t technically a haunted house story per say but a demonic haunting (If Jay Anson is to be believed there were only 2 ghosts in the house plus the demon and they were harmless). This was nothing but a bunch of crappy jump scares and oooh spooky little kids (how many times are we gonna see that) plus it had that annoying TCM remake hazy filter. They completly took out the interesting parts of the original like the eyes at the window. Also what was up with the house it looked like a really bad halloween mock up, the original was so much better and at least had some personality it was spooky without looking like a prop.
Good review Phelous I hope you do some of the amityville sequels as well.
I don’t know, maybe I’m the only one having problems with this but…why the scene of them having sex and the little girl watching?? Wtf…and then she’s like doing that thing with her mouth like she copying them making out…I feel kinda gross watching that, it’s like childporn. Why would you let a little girl watch people have sex. And then the babysitter trying to “seduce” the boy…Ugh wtf.
Personally, I found the introductory rainbow-shirt thing to be scarier than the movie clips. Well, at least in a “disturbing/WTF” sense. The movie was scarier in a “jump-scare/blue lighting” sense. One other thing: you appear to have a window-face-ghost problem. Might I suggest a pair of curtains? 😉
They filmed the remake in a few towns really close to me – not that anyone will find it interesting but there you go. 🙂
Window ghost Phelouses never fail to creep me out, and NewLutz shutting up OldLutz made me laugh. I just wish they wouldn’t have killed the dog. That always bothers me…
It’s hard to watch a review that’s film in front a window without thinking another version of you will pop out of nowhere in the background; I’m just saying.
I’ve only seen the original, but I agree with you on it- It goes on and on, and just gets so damn dull for me. I don’t think I’d like the remake either, but some of the scenes at least looks funny. Speaking of funny, I realy loved the editing gags in this review. Hilarious stuff!
Okay, maybe I’m missing out on something but… if you want to use a shaven character in your review but want to maintain the traditional Phelous look, Phelous… (wow, that sounds even more stupid now than when I typed this comment up) Well, shave after you’ve done the Phelous part and then do the other character. At least that’s how I would do it. (Okay, one may run into the “shaved Phelous” problem in the next video, I didn’t think about that.)
Huh sadly i liked the original. its not my favorite movie or anything but i figured less is more, and it sacred me as a kid. the babysitter scene was one of the best scenes in the first one because you really didn’t know what she saw… this one is friggen laughable and an insult.
I don’t know much about the original story or the original movie, but this remake just seemed really generic to me. Probably because I’ve seen it a million times in crappy tv shows.
Ryan Reynolds telling everything to shut up, though, was hilarious.
Not that anyone asked or cares, but it’s not unlikely to get high from one hit off a bong. It just depends on the quality of the marijuana, or how heavy a smoker the person is.

Never shave again. You’re scaring the little girl.
SCARING THE LITTLE GIRL?!
Is it just me, or did the dad look and sound a lot like Adam Jensen from Deus Ex?
Of course the real reason Phelous likes the remake better is Canadian loyaty to Ryan Reynolds isn’t it!
Looks like next review may contain some NIIIGHTMAAAAAARES OF THE NIGHT! NIIIGHTMAAAARES, THEY’RE ALRIGHT!

Ryan Reynooooolds!!
I am so used to him playing a wise cracking average Joe in every film he is in that seeing him ham it up is a nice change.
Anyone else notice another Phelous looking through the window at 1:56 and at the end?
True.. but doesn’t Phelous know that only obvious jump scares are scary?

<STRONG> Why does it always take them so long to leave the house???

Nightmare, eh?
Are you starting on a Platinum Dunes remake theme? Because I REALLY hope so…
I have the feeling that if this had been the “Who season” we would have traveled through the TyeDye shirt.
and now I have the feeling that Phelous has birthed a new running gag that we’ll see throught this season.
Another awesome review, Phelous. Looking forward to seeing more in the future. Keep it up!
With your current trend in remakes, I hope for your sake you don’t live on Elm.

The phrase “shaved Phelous problem” cracks me up.

The 28 Days Later reference killed me. Good job!

I’m actually surprised how many times I’ve been able to reference back to Phel’s line “isn’t that right, ya little Australian Tart?”
Go baby ghost go! You suck less then Casper, he never got anyone to jump off roofs.
terrifying indeed, can’t get enough ryan reynolds “SHUT UP!!!!”
Completely forgot Chloe was in this.
