Holy shit! Those close ups of the animatronic werewolf face are fucking terrifying! That’s right up there with the warg from The Neverending Story. That thing literally gave me nightmares for years. I still don’t like looking at it and I’m almost 30.

Warg? Oh, you mean the G’mork. Yeah, he frickin’ scared the crap outta me as a kid, too. Him and the Terror Dogs in Ghostbusters.

In medieval times they could strangle, pitchfork, hang and burn werewolves just fine. The silver thing was first introduced in the wolfman film. Oddly, since silver is the element of the moon in alchemy, and would more likely make a werewolf more powerful and should really be used as a device for them to turn every night rather than something to kill them with.

If you think about it, if you needed silver to kill a werewolf and they can infect people by bites and scratches, everyone would be a werewolf as it is way too specific and rare of an element.

The Silver thing is best explained in a couple of ways…

      1. It is considered a PURE Metal, thus it harms impure things.

      2. Silver was commonly what Crosses were made out of, so the Holy thing kind of passed on.

      3. Silver was common enough for even poor Families to have ‘a little of,’ so it could be around to ‘save you.’

Of course, as Mythbusters showed, they don’t make for very good bullets.  You’ll probably miss a few times.

It’s still a modern concept, though. In medieval times, killing ghosts could be done with any iron object (sometimes steel worked just as well, being an iron alloy) and I have also heard tales of ghosts being killed as if they were alive. In later years this was changed to more complicated procedures involving blessings or magic. In ancient times it was much easier to kill supernatural creatures, and with later years they have become more and more complicated. Are they becoming more powerful? Or are we making things more complicated for dramatic effect? Probably the latter.

Werewolves, as mentioned above, could be slain just like you kill any man. This is because cases of werewolves have actually existed, though less fantastical in real life (clinical lycanthropy).

The morphing effects reminds me of a shittier take on Chuck Norris turning into a bear in Forrest Warrior.  I agree that it’s nothing like that in Howling 7; goddamn movie, fuck it to Hell.

6:26- You mean the show where The Cinema Snob got his theme song, but doesn’t anymore, because of copyright crap?

Thor is a super intelligent dog?  AND he was later in Karate Dog!?  Well, son of my mom.

9:36- The werewolf was probably thinking, “Now, I’m gonna finish what Christopher Lloyd started, you little bastard!”

    13:04- BOOMER WILL LIVE!

15:53- Reminds me of that shot from Predator where we start with Schwarzenegger and the camera pans up to reveal the dead body strung up in the tree above him.

I caught this one as a kid; that last jump scare scarred me. :/

I also noticed that the werewolf’s roars are the ones they used in Gargoyles with their own werewolf episode.

2:21 Damn, this music like it’s from an Aveyond game.

Gotta admit, I do like the idea of a dog hunting a werewolf instead of a human. The closest thing I’ve seen to that is that one chapter in Harry Potter with Sirius & Lupin.

Incoherent Ahmed Johnson cameo, if only he could have been the werewolf. I too enjoy these type of werewolf effects
